New Forest Caravan Holidays

The New Forest or the Royal Forest as was named by William The Conqueror in the Doomsday Book in 1079 is located in Hampshire, Southern England. Named the National Forest in 2005 and attracting an estimated 15 milliion visitors per year The New Forest is the largest area of pastureland, forests and heathlands. Once famed for providing the Royal Navy with timber in the 18th century the New Forest National Park of today is home to a vast array of wildlife the most popular being the wild horses and ponies. Other wild animals include mutliple species of wild birds which attract many bird watchers to the area, cattle, pigs and deer which all roam freely, and the forest also is home to three species of snakes, the adder being the most common.

The New Forest attracts many visitors year round due to its unspoilt natural beauty but also for its many local villages nearby including Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Burley and Beaulieu where occasionally the wild ponies and horses of the New Forest can bee seen wandering the streets. It is a very popular location for caravan holidays with lots of caravan parks in the area. Southampton is the nearest town and other places to visit include Bournemouth, Poole, travel into Dorset ot take the ferry from Southampton to the Isle of Wight.
