Burnham-on-Sea Caravan Holidays

Burnham-on-Sea or Burnhamm as was named by King Alfred in his will is a seaside town in Somerset, England, the ‘on Sea’ was added much later due to number of places with the same name. It is said that the Romans were the first inhabitants of the sand dunes behind the River Parrett to guide ships to England but the town is also mentioned in the Norman Doomsday Book that settlements were founded here.

Until the late 18th century Burnham-on-Sea was a fishing village but as its popularity grew it became known for being a large seaside town and with many caravan and holiday parks in and around the area it is an ideal place for caravan holidays. In 1832 Burnham-on-Sea had its famous low wooden lighthouse built, although no longer comissioned for work the Grade 11 listed building is one of the most popular attractions as are the stories of the many shipwrecks throughout the centuries. The town has many historical churches centuries old as well as the many listed buildings along the beautiful esplanade and its traditional bandstand. The town famously holds the title for Uk’s smallest pier which was built in 1911 and also boasts one of the longest stretches of sandy beaches in Europe.

There is a vast array of restaurants, cafes, pubs and take aways. Local attractions include Donkey rides (summer season), Apex Park (Wildlife walks, fishing lake and childrens play area and skate park), Amusement arcades on the pier, boating and sailing hire. Ideally located for Glastonbury (14 miles), Brean Down Fort, Brent Knoll walks on the edge of the Mendip Hills, Stert Island nature haven, Bridgewater and Minehaed and Weston-Super-Mare.
