Tenby Caravan Holidays

Tenby is located on the west side of Carmarthen Bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Tenby or Dinbych-y-pysod in Welsh is an old harbour town surrounded by the famed 13th century medieval walls and the Five Arches Barbican gatehouse. Earliest settlements recorded at Tenby were from the 9th century and was invaded by the Normans in the 12th century and its first stone wall built was Castle Hill in the 13th century. The town was a major sea port but was repeatedly attacked prompting the 1st Earl of Pembroke to build the walls to protect the town. The towns defences were again under threat in the 16th century so the Five Arches Gatehouse was built amid fears of a Spanish Armada.

Tenby has a rich history throughout the centuries in which many wars were fought and a plague in 1650 killing half the population of the town but Tenby’s strength grew and in the Victorian and Georgian eras it became known as a health resort which paved the way for the seaside resort it has become today and is a popular choice for caravan holidays with many caravan and holiday parks around the area.

The picturesque town has two sandy beaches and coastal paths with stunning views of the coastline. There are a vast array of shops, restaurants, pubs and tea shops for all tastes. Local attractions include Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, The Tudor Merchants House, Tenby Castle Ruins, Castle beach, St Marys 15th century Church, Island Boat trips, Tenby Ghost Tours and Manor Wildlife Park. Ideally located for Pembrokeshire National Park, St Davids Bishops Palace, Skomer Island nature reserve specialising in Puffin watching boat trips and exploring the coastal towns.
