Edinburgh Caravan Holidays

Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city since the 15th century, is located in Lothian’s Firth of Forth southern shore and is an excellent choice for caravan holidays or just a city break. Although Edinburgh is a small city it has become the second most popular tourist destination in the UK after London. Standing watch over Edinburgh on Castle Rock is Edinburgh Castle which dates from the 12th century and houses the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny. A popular visitor location, it has become a regimental museum and in more recent years has become venue for some of the biggest music and entertainment artists in the world.

A must for walkers are the stunning views from Arthurs Seat, the remnant of a volcano in Holyrood Park, and also Calton Hill with its monuments, Scottish parliament and the Queen’s Scottish residence and the floral clock in Princes Park. The National Museum of Scotland and Art Galleries are a good way to spend the afternoon. The annual Edinburgh Festival, the worlds largest arts festival, is held 3rd August to 27th August.

Edinburgh has much in the way of nightlife and is split into two areas – the old town with its cobbled streets is a relaxing part of the city where you can enjoy one of the many local whiskey bars while the main town centre almost rivals London’s West End and here you can catch a show at one of the theatres. There is an abundance of restaurants, wine bars, eateries – local as well as the popular high street chains eg Bella Italia, Pizza Hut. Family hotspots include Edinburgh Zoo, an 82 acre park which is home to the only Koalas and Pandas in Britain and has aquariums and the popular zoo gardens tree collection.
