Luxury 2 bedroom mobile home, brand new in September 2011, sleeps 4. The owners are a mature, retired couple, non-smokers who take a real pride in their holiday home.
Les Charmettes: The holiday park is one France’s top holiday parks and is rightly proud of its reputation. With all its attractions and facilities the park is perfect for families with children. However, the large number of mature owners proves that Les Charmettes also has lots to offer people of all ages. The water park with its newly upgraded and refurbished range of pools, slides and entertainment is the jewel in the crown but kids clubs, tennis courts, gym, boules, crazy golf, bike hire, table- tennis, archery, pool tables, bar, restaurant, take-away food outlets, theatre and entertainment team all ensure a wide selection of activities for everyone. This is a large park but it is set in beautiful surroundings with an abundance of a variety of trees, featuring oak and pine. Widlife abounds: cuckoos, linnets, storks, green- and goldfinches, redpolls, black redstarts, red and black kites, buzzards, hoopoes, heron, hares, small lizzards, tree frogs have all been seen on or from our plot. The area is well-known for its storks. Les Charmettes is immaculately kept and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The management makes every effort to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that nobody’s holiday is spoiled by unruly individuals.
Outside Les Charmettes: If you think the park sounds good, wait until you go exploring! The French are mad-keen cyclists and the area is incredibly well furnished with cycle tracks; separate tarmaced tracks run alongside most roads, the abundant pine and oak forests in the area are criss-crossed by quality cycle tracks too. Remember that we have two adult bikes for your use. Additional bikes can be hired on the park, around 50 yards from our pitch! From our plot it is an easy, flat ride of around 20 minutes to one of the beaches at La Palmyre, the nearby upmarket holiday resort. The beaches have literally miles of soft sand. One is over 7 miles long! La Palmyre also has the biggest zoo in France and is well worth a visit. Some other beach resorts within a 30-60 minute drive are: St Palais, Royan, Chatelaillon, and the islands of Ile d’Oleron and ile de Re.
Don’t get the idea that this region only offers beaches, however. There are some lovely villages and towns to enjoy. The local typically- French village of Les Mathes is a lovely place (try a gentle 10 minute cycle ride there for your morning bread and the morning markets). La Rochelle is a must. Cognac, Saintes, Brouage, Fouras and the islands should not be missed. The local outdoor markets are full of interest and packed with temptations.
How to get there? Budget airlines fly to La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Bergerac. Hire cars are available from the airports. For a two week holiday, consider taking your own car. From the port of St Malo the journey is just 250 miles to Les Charmettes. French roads are excellent, well sign-posted and generally less congested than ours.
